I find it completely disconcerting that in spite of all POTUS has done and said that is completely inconsistent with virtue or integrity, to get some of these evangelicals to do an honest appraisal of the man is like pulling teeth. I get it though. To do so would require an unprecedented amount of cognitive dissonance.
I would respect you more if you just said the issues of the Republican Party are simply where your heart is and anyone you believe can bring about a change has your vote. I get it. If you’re passionate about abortion, you may have to stomach a candidate you may not even care for to get behind what matters most to you. But please respect that you are not the litmus test for what people of faith can and should hold as their voting inspiration or conviction. There are those whose passion for the poor is just as intense as yours is for the unborn.
Yet Trump got you out her declaring that brethren — Bible-believing, Christ professing, spirit-filled, evident fruit bearers — aren’t really saved because they won’t vote for him. Are you serious? You’re prepared to reduce the power of Christ’s redemptive work as ineffective because of how a person votes in a secular system? Some of them who YOU KNOW love the Lord and do truly serve him? You can’t honestly assess Trump’s words and actions, both overlooking and excusing them, but you can deride your brethren, who you now simply refer to as “the left.” I don’t regard my brethren as right or left. They are simply believers, voting as they deem best.
And stop with the nonsense that Christ would have voted with the GOP. If anything, based on his propensity to rebuke hypocrisy, CHRIST would have sharply rebuked both parties for their immorality and ungodliness. Personally I can’t even see Christ participating in this system, let alone choosing a side.
